SMC: Why did you start cosplaying?
I started cosplaying because I love making things. I was already making my own outfits for art sake and then through my love of comic books found out about comic conventions. I wish I would have known sooner. I would have started sooner.
SMC: What was the first convention you attended in cosplay?
My very first convention was Fan Expo Canada 2013. I had a comic book collector friend who suggested we go and I instantly fell in love with the costumes and the culture. I was dressed as a little known character Rachel Grey/Summers which is where I get my cosplay name from.
SMC: What has been your most memorable convention moment?
I have many but one of my favorite convention moments was my first year as a guest for Windsor Comic con ( which is coming up Sept. 21/22 2019)
We did some fun pre con media stuff and I got to go hang out with some sick kids, said hello to the cops, hang out with Lou Ferrigno (he gave me his jacket cuz I was Poison Ivy and was cold) and got to ride around town in the Batmobile before the show. The convention itself is always super fun getting to see friends/awesome cosplay and checking out the local vendors.
SMC: What is your favorite thing about cosplaying at a convention?
My favorite thing about cosplaying is seeing peoples faces light up when their favorite characters come to life. Also it makes me super happy when people appreciate my artistry and crafting work.

SMC: Where can fans expect to see you next? (2019/20 Schedule?)
I will be at Windsor Comicon coming, How to Halloween, Youmacon, maybe Grand Rapids… there’s a few in between that I’m not sure whether I will make it to or not in the fall/winter months.
For more info you can check my IG @raygreycosplay
SMC: What cosplayers inspire you?
cosplayers that inspire me are Kamuicosplay because she is amazing at crafting and is always a sunny funny gal. True to herself. kinpatsu cuz her transformations are awesome and the work impeccable. Willow.creative.nl because her work is so clean and just perfection.
SMC: Which is your favorite cosplay you’ve created?
It’s hard for me to pick just one. I really love my Ariel tail because it’s fun to swim in and I really love my Ivy stuff because she is low maintenance. My Skyrim armor is also on the top of my list it’s just harder to deal with through the day.
SMC: What cosplay are you best known for?
I would say I’m most know for Ivy, Ariel, Starfire or Darth talon. It just depends on who you talk to. Also known for fully painting my body for fun.

SMC: If money was no object what would be your dream cosplay creation?
Money no object? There are so many things I would want to make! I really wanted to make a working Toothless once upon a time. I think I just want to own a dragon lol. There are a few Star Wars dresses I’d like to make and I have a Disney dresses made of flowers series I want to do so I guess I would start with that. I’d also want to learn more about LED stuff and mechanics if I had the money. Oooo movable wings… see it’s too hard to pick.
SMC: Do you have any new cosplays currently in the works?
Yes, I am currently making bombshell ivy, Jean Grey, working on some Riverdale stuff, trying to make my G.O.T before fall, new Starfire, & finish up Astrid. There’s a lot of things on the back burner too like Mera from Aquaman, Ryuko from Kill la Kill, Nami from League of Legends. There are always new things that make me want to drop what I’m doing so it’s hard to stay focused on just finishing one. Also, it doesn’t help that I love so many Fandoms. There’s just not enough time in the day.
SMC: What are your cosplay strengths? (Tailoring, fabric painting, worbla armor, in-character performance etc.)
When it comes to my crafting strengths… I’m kind of a jill of all trades. I’m pretty much self-taught and am decent at taking things apart in my head and putting them back together. Sometimes in the hardest way possible…. but hey we all make mistakes. I’m still learning tips and tricks from friends and sometimes the internet. I love sewing, working with worbla, foam smithing, body painting, wig making, decent at performing alot I rarely ever do, prop making. I wouldn’t say I’m “the best” at any of it but I do my best with the knowledge and supplies I have.
SMC: What’s one thing you wish you knew about cosplaying before you got started?
I wish I knew about it earlier in life because I would have been doing it longer. Also, I wish I could figure out the business part of it. It is alot of money to make stuff all the time so it would be nice to use my skills in a way that helps pay for it.

SMC: Any advice for people interested in cosplaying for the first time?
Just have fun with it! Don’t worry about trying to become “cosfamous” or what other people will think because you will push yourself into making it a hassle to yourself. It supposed to be fun so pick a character you love and just do your best.
SMC: What do you do in the real world for a job?
In the real world, I have had many jobs. I’ve been a hairstylist assistant, hostess, wedding planner intern, backstage theatre manager, barista, but now I work at a paint store till I find what my next calling is.
SMC: What is something your fans may not know about you? Other hobbies?
Things people might not know? I was raised with Parkwood (church) as my second home, I play volleyball with my family at least twice a month, I love to dance especially swing, salsa and ballet, I collect mermaid stuff, I used to write songs when I was in theatre school, I always win at Disney trivia.
SMC: What part of “geekdom” is your favorite avenue of entertainment (i.e. comics, movies, video games, anime, etc?).
My favorite part of “geekdom” is probably movies lately. Honestly, it changes for me all the time because like I said I love so many that one month its video games and then next month it could be comic books or anime just depends.
SMC: What Comic Books are you currently addicted to?
I am currently re-reading the boys because the new show came out and I loved the comics so I’m going back before I watch it. Also, Saga is amazing and Locke and key.
SMC: Any favorite TV shows, movies or cartoons?
I’m obsessed with Riverdale right now and I tried so hard not to be. I really love the classic comics and the Cheryl comics so seeing them take a dark route was hard but Cole Sprouse as JugHead hooked me.

SMC: What is your gaming system of choice?
My game system of choice is PlayStation. Most of my favorite games like kingdom hearts are on there.
SMC: What are you currently playing / upcoming video game releases?
I’m currently playing nothing sadly because I need a new system. I’m just too. Poor at the moment for a new one and also been working on a multitude of costumes so sometimes it’s easier to just watch games on YouTube while I work. Lol
