SMC: Why did you start cosplaying?
LNC: I started cosplaying thanks to an old friend who explained to me what cosplay was. It was in 2006 when my grandmother helped me to make my first cosplay, very simple and only for having fun with that friend. In 2015 I started more seriously in this world doing more details, tailoring without help and making more cosplay. Between 2006-2008 I only had two cosplays and I remember taking the same two cosplays to all the conventions I went to during those years

SMC: What was the first convention you attended in cosplay?
LNC: My first convention was an small one that used to be held in my city, but it stopped being held the following year. It was 2006, the same year when I did my first cosplay. In November 2006 I visited another convention in Valencia (Spain) because my city did not celebrate any more until two years ago, more or less.

SMC: What has been your most memorable convention moment?
LNC: I love the contact with children when I cosplaying as Rey from Star Wars. They look at you as you being the real Rey and it is so, so beautiful. They always come to you and take photos with you. I remembered a little girl who takes my hand and walk with me to take a lot of photos with she and other heroines. Kids are beautiful and cosplay can help them to dream with their heroes. It is magic!

SMC: What is your favourite thing about cosplaying at a convention?
LNC: I think it is walking and taking photos with people. Sometimes, the assistants speak with you about the character, the series… or they congratulate you for your work and that is amazing. I make a lot of friends thanks to that and I think that, along with the happy face of children, meeting new people and being friends, supporting each other; It is the best thing to do cosplay.

SMC: What cosplayers inspire you?
LNC: Kamui cosplay is, for me, the best armor cosplayer that I have ever meet! I love all her jobs, she is really amazing. But I find inspiration on two Spanish cosplayers such as Shiroychigo and Ventura Villena. Shiroychigo is so nice and kind, and Ventura is fantastic with characterization and makeup. He was my biggest inspiration for doing my Sailor Mars cosplay. Thank you, dears!

SMC: Which is your favourite cosplay you’ve created?
LNC: I think they are Sakura Haruno from Naruto series and Rey from Star Wars. Both of them have an emotional meaning for me. Thanks to Naruto was able to meet my boyfriend, with whom I share this hobby. And more or less the same with Star Wars.

SMC: What cosplay are you best known for?
LNC: Rey from Star Wars. I made the first cosplay in 2016 after the premiere of episode VII. Some people said to me that I looked like the character and, in 2020 I continue listening it so… I feel very comfortable with that, I love her and I think she is already part of me too.

SMC: If money was no object what would be your dream cosplay creation?
LNC: I think it would be Saber Arturia from Fate/Stay Night series. This year I want to start with her dress and sword, little by little. If I had more money I know I would buy a lot of material for doing her armor too, but this will have to wait until 2021. This year, only the dress…

SMC: Do you have any new cosplays currently in the works?
LNC: Nowadays I am doing makeup because, due to the quarantine, I have not been able to do outdoor sessions or buy materials to start new cosplays. Soon, I will go to look for Saber Arturia fabric’s for starting her dress as I said before. In the meantime, I want to finish Ellie’s cosplay (The Last of Us 2) because I have old clothes at home for doing it. I am very excited!

SMC: What are your cosplay strengths? (Tailoring, fabric painting, worbla armor, in-character performance etc.)
LNC: My cosplay strength is tailoring. I have learned a lot since 2015 and I feel comfortable with that. I have taken advantage of this quarantine to practice and learn about makeup, so I think in the future it could be another of my strengths.

SMC: What’s one thing you wish you knew about cosplaying before you got started?
LNC: Hmm… how to pose in front of the camera! I am a little shy so I have little difficulties during the photoshoots. My boyfriend, who is my photographer, tells me many times not to put on a sad face when I want to take a serious photo, haha, but I confess that it is difficult for me. It is also very difficult for me not to blink during the photos, and sometimes we get many photos with our eyes closed! So some tips for the photoshoots would have been nice.

SMC: Any advice for people interested in cosplaying for the first time?
LNC: The advice that I usually give for someone who wants to start cosplay is to find a simple character that you can do with house clothes before making one by hand. So he/she can try the experience without spending a lot of money on materials or learn how to make patterns, sewing, etc. If after that experience you want to continue doing cosplay, you can already learn sewing and pattern making techniques or buy a made one. Everything is valid!

SMC: What do you do in the real world for a job?
LNC: I am a kindergarten teacher. Nowadays I am working as a babysitter.

SMC: What is something your fans may not know about you? Other hobbies?
LNC: I am a role-player. I love these games and I play on weekends with my friends. Sometimes I collaborate with an Star Wars group of Valencia (Spain) as Rey. I have a cosplay group with other cosplayers from my city and we go to conventions to speak about Cosplay is NOT Consent and other things such as: cosplay creation or 3D armors and props.

SMC: What part of “geekdom” is your favourite avenue of entertainment (i.e. comics, movies, video games, anime, etc?).
LNC: As I said before I love role-playing games. My favourite is Call of Cthulhu and Vampire The Masquerade. I read Japanese comics, too and I love watching anime.
