SMC: Why did you start cosplaying?
Naomi VonKreeps: Growing up doesn’t mean you have to stop being awesome, and cosplay is a perfect outlet to stay awesome. Cosplaying is not just an amazing hobby, but it is also a way of becoming characters you have always admired. That is what drove me to start cosplaying! Plus it is a whole load of fun and you get to meet so many amazing people.
SMC: What was the first convention where you cosplayed?
Naomi VonKreeps: FanExpo a few years ago.
SMC: What has been your most memorable convention moment?
Naomi VonKreeps: I guess being recognized even when I’m in my regular clothing is pretty memorable. That was scary and memorable. I was pretty shocked and surprised. lol
SMC: What is the favorite thing about cosplaying at a convention?
Naomi VonKreeps: For me it is a love/hate thing. I love dressing up, and the attention is great, but mainly I think I like seeing people’s reactions to not only my cosplays but all the other cosplayers. For other people to recognize how much time and effort goes into a costume is a really good feeling. I also hate cosplaying at conventions. lol. I’m super shy, so the attention can be a bit much for me. I actually rather go in regular clothing to fan out over the guests, and other cosplayers, but that’s just me.
SMC: Related to conventions, where can fans expect to see you next in? (any schedule in particular?)
Naomi VonKreeps: I will be at the Ottawa Comicon next!
SMC: What other cosplayers inspire you?
Naomi VonKreeps: Ugh, soooo many. Yaya Han and Jessica Nigri of course, Kristen Hughey, Lady Annaka “Magneto” cosplay, Lightning cosplay, and Kamui cosplay just to name a few. There are just too many talented cosplayers out there
SMC: Which is your favorite Cosplay’s you’ve created?
Naomi VonKreeps: Probably my Black Widow. I just think it turned out exactly how I had it in my mind.
SMC: What cosplay are you best known for?
Naomi VonKreeps: Definitely my Star Wars inspired cosplays. haha..I don’t even really consider those cosplays anymore. Just silly costumes I made that are not even close to the real costumes. I don’t know. They aren’t really cosplay but they sure were fun to make.
SMC: If money was no object what would be your dream costume to cosplay
Naomi VonKreeps: Demon Hunter from Diablo 3!
SMC: What part of “geekdom” is you favorite avenue of entertainment (i.e. comics, movies, video games, anime, etc?)
Naomi VonKreeps: Movies and video games!!
SMC: What Comic Books are you currently addicted to?
Naomi VonKreeps: Well, I have to plug the comic books that features me, by Mirror Comics called Big Box Apocalypse!
SMC:Any favorite TV shows, movies or cartoons?
Naomi VonKreeps: Star Wars the original trilogy of course! I’m not much of a TV person but if I am watching, it’s usually something on the Discovery Channel. Ok, I admit to absolutely loving Brian Cox’s series such as Wonders of the Universe and Wonders of the Solar System.
SMC: Do you have any new cosplays currently in the works?
Naomi VonKreeps: I have a few actually. Currently I’m working on Edward Kenway. I’ve completed my Catwoman inspired from the New 52. Planning on doing Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Rarity and I kind of want to go back to my roots and do a few more silly Star Wars inspired costumes. Imperial Gunner is one, and maybe a Wampa.
SMC: Any comments you would like to share with your fans?
Naomi VonKreeps: I just want to say thank you to everyone for all their support and for just, well just being awesome, and if any of you want to take the tentative steps into the cosplay world, GO FOR IT!!! You will not regret it.
