Share My Cosplay Interview – Musable

Location: Birmingham, AL, USA

SMC: Why did you start cosplaying?
Well, for my 20th birthday, some of my friends where going to Anime Weekend Atlanta and they invited me to go.  I was familiar with ‘cosplay’ but had never done it.  I was like “Well If I’m going to a convention, I’m gonna go all out and dress up!” So I went online and purchased my first costume, it also the only costume I have ever purchased.

SMC: What was the first convention where you cosplayed?
I first cosplayed at AWA 2010 as Rikku from Final Fantasy X-2.  I wore the same costume all three days.  I didn’t realize people wore multiple costumes at these events.

SMC:What has been your most memorable convention moment?
My most memorable was when my fiancée proposed to me at Nerdacon 2012.  He was dressed as Captian America, entered the costume contest and called me up on stage and proposed in front of the entire crowd.  He asked me to be his Captainess for the rest of his life.  Such a great moment!

SMC:  What is the favorite thing about cosplaying at a convention?
Honestly, my favorite thing is when you are in a costume and someone else walks over and says “OMG! You’re ______ from ______!!! That is my favorite character!!” Cause to me it’s not just ‘being in a costume.’  For that moment, to that fan, you ARE that character.  They see you and they see everything they love about that show!

SMC: Related to conventions, where can fans expect to see you next in? (any schedule in particular?)
Well I am 90% sure I am going to MTAC 2014 this year lol, but next CONFIRMED convention is Animazement in Raleigh, North Carolina.

SMC: What other cosplayers inspire you?
My biggest inspirations comes down to a handful of people.  My best friend Beautiful Syn is definitely a major inspiration.  She inspires me to improve and hone my skins on a regular basis.  Pixiekitty Cosplay is another inspiration.  I fell in love with her Rikku designs and I would love to get the chance to meet her one day!  Finally I would have to say that my fiancée Ben Be Jammin is an inspiration.  He is always honest with me and wants me to be the best and he constantly gives me the greatest support I could ask for.

SMC: Which is your favorite Cosplay’s you’ve created?
My favorite cosplay that I have made is probably my Steampunk Cinderella, simply for all the work I put into it and all the learning that came from it.  Over 100 hours of work, I worked with leather, silk, satin, wire, clock work, massive wig styling as well as shoe work .  The wig was probably my favorite part of the cosplay!

SMC: What cosplay are you best known for?
Musable: I am best known for my Rikku, Supergirl and Black Canary.  I get asked when my next Rikku dressphere will be all the time, and I can tell you now that it’s going to be at Otakon this year! Berserker Rikku will be debuting!

SMC: If money was no object what would be your dream costume to cosplay?
Musable: I’m going to be honest…if money was no object I would love to make Rosa from Final Fantasy 4, I would also invest in a personal trainer to bust my butt and get a little bit more muscular so when I cosplay superheroes I don’t hurt myself trying to do awesome poses.

SMC: What part of “geekdom” is you favorite avenue of entertainment (i.e. comics, movies, video games, anime, etc?)
Musable: Hands down Video Games and Comic Books.  I am trying to get more into anime, because watching Sailor Moon and DBZ when I was a kid was a gateway into Video Games and Comic Books.  I would love to pay tribute to my past loves!

SMC: What Comic Books are you currently addicted to?
Musable: I am loving what NEW 52 is doing with Supergirl and The Birds of Prey!  They are currently my faves, and I admit to not being caught up on them.

SMC: Any favorite TV shows, movies or cartoons?
Musable: I have recently…as in two days ago, started getting into “Attack on Titan” and I can’t believe I missed so much on that! I can’t wait to get caught up! I also have two favorite TV Shows, “Spartacus” and “Once Upon A Time.” I am so glad the new season of OUaT has started back because I need more Cap’n  Hook in my life.

SMC: Do you have any new cosplays currently in the works?
Musable: I have 3 I am working on right now.  I am working on a Rocker Haruhi from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, New 52 Black Canary and Jedi Rapunzel.
