SMC: Why did you start cosplaying?
Masubi: I started cosplaying because I’ve always loved dressing up and making costumes. From a young age my mum and I used to make costumes for Halloween, parties or just for fun. It then evolved when I was attending my first convention.

SMC: What was the first convention you cosplay’d?
Masubi:It was actually the first convention I ever attended. I went to London MCM with my friend.

SMC: What has been your most memorable convention moment?
Masubi: It has to be meeting the main man himself, Mr. Stan Lee! It was a dream moment for me after being a marvel fan for so long.

SMC: What is your favorite thing about cosplaying at a convention?
Masubi: I love becoming someone else for the day. I’m not an overly confident person, however when I’m in costume, I can just let go and have fun meeting new wonderful people.

SMC: Where can fans expect to see you next? (2015 Schedule?)
Masubi: I’ll be at the Cardiff Film and Comic Con at the end of October but I’m planning to go to more conventions next year. Currently playing it by ear 😉

SMC: What cosplayers inspire you?
Masubi: Cosplayers like it’s Raining Neon, Yaya Han and Kamui – Every single costume that they craft is just so intricate and perfect. Their work is just incredible. There are so many talented cosplayers out there, but those 3 really stand out to me.

SMC: Which is your favorite cosplay you’ve created?
Masubi: I’d say my Morrigan from Darkstalkers cosplay, just because it was so much fun to wear and Morrigan is badass. Buuuuuttt then I also love my Iron Man Captain America mash up, although I was never fully happy with how it turned out, it was a great challenge to make and I learnt a lot during the build.

SMC: What cosplay are you best known for?
Masubi: Probably my Morrigan cosplay as it’s my biggest, but also my casual Black Cat which I did with Stacey Rebecca’s casual Gwen Stacy does the rounds on social media now and again 🙂

SMC: If money was no object what would be your dream cosplay creation?
Masubi: It changes regularly haha, I’ve always wanted to cosplay Belle from Beauty and Beast. That would be a childhood dream.

SMC: Do you have any new cosplays currently in the works?
Masubi: I do, I have a couple on going to be honest. I have Scream which I’m still yet to finish, I’m also working on a casual Rogue from Xmen cosplay, that’ll just be something simple though and I’m working on a main one, but I’m keeping that under wraps for now as I’m really excited about it and it’s one I’ve been wanting to do for a while. I’ll let you guys be the first to know when it’s complete though 😉

SMC: What are your cosplay strengths? (Tailoring, fabric painting, worbla armor, in-character performance etc.)
Masubi: I like to try my hand at most things and with each costume try something new and improve on what I’ve done before. My strength probably lies in sewing but I’ve still got a lot to learn.

SMC: What’s one thing you wish you knew about cosplaying before you got started?
Masubi: I wish I’d have known how supportive people can be and how you just need to have fun.

SMC: Any advice for people interested in cosplaying for the first time?Masubi: Don’t over complicate things, the one thing I hear more than any is “I’m not very creative / I can’t sew..etc” – You don’t need to be in a full Gundam suit to be considered as a cosplayer, you don’t even need to make anything. You can easily buy/beg/borrow things to make up a costume, you can even buy a full one. Or commission some lovely cosplayer to make you something, just enjoy it. Have fun!

SMC: What do you do in the real world for a job? (Be specific as you like)
Masubi: I am a graphic designer, but I’m currently on maternity leave after recently having a little boy 🙂 so mummy at the moment.

SMC: What is something your fans may not know about you? Other hobbies?
Masubi: I’m a photographer under the name of iamsuko, I take mainly creative / fashion photos but I have dabbled in the cosplay photography too aaaand I’ve also just started a little craft venture (facebook.com/bunnyandtwine *wink wink nudge nudge*) It’s still in it’s early stages at the mo.

SMC: What part of “geekdom” is you favorite avenue of entertainment (i.e. comics, movies, video games, anime, etc?).
Masubi: Now that’s a toughie. My main ‘geekdoms’ are probably video games, films and anime. But I’m an avid collector of Vinyl Toys, Pokemon Cards and Comics.

SMC: What is your gaming system of choice?
Masubi: My gaming system of choice is my 3DS, it’s the console that’s never far away from me and the one I play the most.

SMC: What are you currently playing / upcoming video game releases?Masubi: I’m currently playing Pokemon Omega Ruby and rather excited for Pokemon Go. I do have to admit I’m just a little bit excited for Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer
