Share My Cosplay Interview: LostWeasleyChild Cosplay

So we here at SMC had the pleasure of interviewing an up and coming cosplayer in the form of LostWeasleyChild. Everyone should take note and give her some follows as this cosplayer is going places. That being said we had a Ton of questions for this “Lost Child”, so lets get straight to the fun!

Location: Orange County, CA
Social Media: Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

SMC: You’re always popping up in our feed. How does it feel to be recognized for the work you’re doing?
LostWeasleyChild: Honestly most of the time I’m in disbelief. I’m constantly telling people “I’m not that cool” and “I have no idea what I’m doing” because it’s true! I also feel like I gotta live up to these new recognition and always better myself and my work.

SMC: Why did you start cosplaying?
LostWeasleyChild: I had friends in my theatre department and coworkers at Disneyland who cosplayed and I just thought it was the coolest thing ever! I had always loved dressing up and pretending to be different characters since I was a kid (I took Halloween just as seriously as I do cosplay now!).

SMC: What was the first convention you cosplay’d?
LostWeasleyChild: Comikaze 2014! It always falls on my birthday weekend so I asked for badges for my birthday that year. That summer I had been casually putting together my Bombshell Harley Quinn cosplay and thought it would be fun to wear it to.

SMC: What has been your most memorable convention moment?
LostWeasleyChild: At San Diego Comic Con this year while I was cosplaying as Bombshell Harley Quinn a little girl dressed as Harley with her parents came up to me and started telling me that she insisted on talking to me. I’m not very good with kids but this little girl literally stole my heart – cutest thing ever! We talked about our matching colors and the other cosplayers she had seen so far. Her parents were very sweet too! They just really enjoyed seeing the two of us chatting about Harley stuff.

SMC: What is your favorite thing about cosplaying at a convention?
LostWeasleyChild: I love seeing other people’s cosplays! Seeing the brand new designs, awesome crossovers, and the classics as well. That’s usually how I make new friends – I just kinda freak out about their cosplays!

SMC: Where can fans expect to see you next? (2015 Schedule?)
LostWeasleyChild: My last two cons on the year are Long Beach Comic Con and Comikaze – I’m still working on what I’ll be wearing now that I have so many different things to choose from!

SMC: What cosplayers inspire you?
LostWeasleyChild: Yaya Han was my first cosplay hero – her attention to detail and her quality of work just blew me away. She was very sweet when I met her as Comikaze last year as well – she even wrote “Follow your cosplay dreams” on the calendar I bought *fangirl moment* But this year at Anime Expo I met Jessica Nigri through some mutual friends and she was great as well! The way she interacts with her fans was very refreshing and a great experience to see.
SMC: We often find you side by side with HendoArt, are you “besties” for life or just destined to work together?
LostWeasleyChild: I think it’s a little of both! At first we were like “Wow your stuff is so cool I hope I can meet you soon!” Now it’s grown into a really great friendship where we’re always throwing new cosplay ideas around, but also hanging out outside of cons and enjoying life!

SMC: Which is your favorite cosplay you’ve created?
LostWeasleyChild: I really enjoyed making my first crossover cosplay of Jinx from League of Legends and Harley Quinn. It was the first cosplay I had mostly made from scratch. Literally didn’t know what I was doing but had a great time figuring it out and making an original design!

SMC: What cosplay are you best known for?
LostWeasleyChild: Well for a while it was Bombshell Harley, but now my Spider-Gwen is getting a lot of recognition as well which is such an honor! The road to Spider-Gwen was not an easy one so I’m glad everyone really enjoyed my take on it with the gorgeous pattern by Brandon Gilbert.
SMC: Being relatively new to cosplay, how have you found your reception within the community?
LostWeasleyChild: It’s been crazy! I absolutely love everyone I’ve met through the community. The positive environment is such a nice change from the competitive nature of theatre and acting.

SMC: If money was no object what would be your dream cosplay creation?
LostWeasleyChild: Oh man so many decisions! I guess I’d have to go with the Catwoman costume from Batman Returns – classic. But I need the dream body to go along with it!!!

SMC: Do you have any new cosplays currently in the works?
LostWeasleyChild: Hendo and I are gonna be tackling corsets soon so we’re planning on doing Playboy bunny suits of Spider-Gwen and Harley Quinn!

SMC: What are your cosplay strengths? (Tailoring, fabric painting, worbla armor, in-character performance etc.)
LostWeasleyChild: Oh gosh. I’m awful at most thing to be honest. Makeup has always been a strength for me having worked in theatre and with stage makeup for so long – if I can make the makeup last through a 2 hour musical under hot stage lights I can make it last all day during a con! Character performance is another strength being an actor and ex-Disneyland cast member.

SMC: What’s one thing you wish you knew about cosplaying before you got started?
LostWeasleyChild: The amount of money that goes into this hobby. I’m set on continuing cosplay for as long as I can, but funding it can be extremely difficult. Getting a better sewing machine is first on my list!
SMC: Any advice for people interested in cosplaying for the first time?
LostWeasleyChild: Just have fun with it! Don’t be worried about your cosplay not being “as good” as anyone else’s. It’s not a competition outside of the contests or the masquerade. Being out on the con floor just enjoying yourself is the best thing you can do.

SMC: What do you do in the real world for a job?
LostWeasleyChild: I live the glamorous life of a front desk agent at a hotel.

SMC: What is something your fans may not know about you? Other hobbies?
LostWeasleyChild: I’ve been training in musical theatre for 13 years now and I continue training with my vocal coach whenever I get a chance.
SMC: What part of “geekdom” is you favorite avenue of entertainment (i.e. comics, movies, video games, anime, etc?).
LostWeasleyChild: Comics and movies are my jam. I did just finish Attack on Titan, so I might start watching more anime in the future.

SMC: What Comic Books are you currently addicted to?
LostWeasleyChild: I’m just waiting for the Spider-Gwen series to come back! Also the New 52 Harley Quinn comics are an absolute favorite of mine.

SMC: Any favorite TV shows, movies or cartoons?
LostWeasleyChild: Arrow and Flash are the bomb! Marvel movies are my favorite, but with all the new DC movies coming out I’ll see if they can persuade my tastes
