SMC: What inspired you to start cosplaying?
Jadeabella: I was first inspired to start cosplaying after going to some conventions. The first time I went I wasn’t really sure what to expect and the convention was still quite small then so they’re wasn’t very many cosplayers. The next year it had gotten a little larger and more people had started to cosplay. Everyone looked like they were having so much fun and I wanted to be a part of it!
SMC: What was the first convention where you cosplayed?
Jadeabella: The first convention I cosplayed at was a small convention called AVCon in my home town of Adelaide, Australia. When I first started going it was only as big as a few rooms in the University, now it’s gotten quite large and has even had some pretty amazing guest. Jessica Nigri being one of them last year.
SMC: What has been your most memorable convention moment?
Jadeabella: My most memorable convention moment would have probably would have been the first time I met my now current boyfriend.
SMC:: What is the favorite thing about cosplaying at a convention?
Jadeabella: My favorite thing about cosplaying at a convention is seeing people so happy to see their favorite characters brought to life. I really enjoy working away on a costume to have someone really appreciate my work and come and tell me how much the enjoy my costume. It really makes all the hard work worth it to see how much it brightens up someones day.
SMC:: Related to conventions, where can fans expect to see you next in? (any schedule in particular?)
Jadeabella: The next convention I will be attending will be Sydney Supanova on the 13th-15th June!
There I will be helping promote a web series I’ll be featuring in called: Scavengers of the Scarlet Wastes, as my character: Sparx.
Be sure to head on over to the page to keep up to date with all of doings of the Scavengers – https://www.facebook.com/scavengerswebseries?fref=ts
The series is created by the very talented Ken Abbott of Kenaz Concepts. His page can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Kenaz-Concepts/631371330256872?fref=ts
SMC: What other cosplayers inspire you?
Jadeabella: Oh man… where do I even start?! There are so many talented cosplayers that I look up too and admire.
Yaya Han, Miss Sinister, Riddle and Li Kovacs are definitely the ones that immediately come to mind. I’m super big fans of everything that they do. The amount of craftsman ship that goes into so many of their costumes is absolutely mind boggling. Li’s latest Princess Hilda costume was amazing. The fact that she makes and casts every single piece of jewelry and her own elf ears too?!
And can we talk about how much of a babe Miss Sinister is? Her style of cosplay is so different and she rocks every single thing she does. I love her genderbend cosplays, like how freaking awesome was her Sagat? She’s so alternative and sure of herself and it’s a huge inspiration to me. If I ever get my level to half as good as any of those girls I will be happy.
SMC: Which is your favorite Cosplay’s you’ve created?
Jadeabella: Aw man that’s kinda hard haha… Mainly since I’m always pretty fussy and am never 100% happy with my work.
I think probably my Glaceon gijinka, Felicia and Yoko (now that she’s been updated) are probably my favorites. Felicia still needs some work, the wig needs to be at least three times fluffier, and other things need fixing. Glaceon I am actually pretty happy with now she’s been updated too, I’m liking the shorter wig and the make up now to what it was originally. Just some seams need fixing now.
SMC: What cosplay are you best known for?
Jadeabella: I’m probably best known for my Felicia from Darkstalkers cosplay, as it was the one I wore for the Neko Nation Catgirl Calender and also to the last Sydney Neko Nation event where I was also one of the DJs. It was really nice having a bunch of people run up and ask if I was the same girl from the calender and how much they really enjoyed my DJ set which was Video gamed themed.
SMC: If money was no object what would be your dream costume to cosplay
Jadeabella: Argh.. there are so many! If money was no object? Ermmm… I’d really like to try and tackle a new Zero Suit Samus out of latex, also Mari Illustrious Makinami’s pink Plugsuit also from Latex.
Princess Shirahoshi from One Piece, I’d love to tackle a fully swimable silicon tail of hers. Oh man the list just goes on and on…
SMC: What part of “geekdom” is you favorite avenue of entertainment (i.e. comics, movies, video games, anime, etc?)
Jadeabella: Video games and anime are my biggest avenues of entertainment. Mainly games, I am a huge Pokemon fanatic. My DS goes with me absolutely everywhere and I’m always trying to come up with new doubles teams. I love when a new Pokemon game is released because I need to learn a whole new bunch of strategies. Also a huge fan of the Legend of Zelda series, Ace Attorney, Borderlands, Street Fighter and so so many more.
SMC: What Comic Books are you currently addicted to?
Jadeabella: Hm.. not really any at the moment.. The last ones I read were a few from Deadpool Corps and Huntress and Nightwing..
SMC: Any favorite TV shows, movies or cartoons?
Jadeabella: I mainly put TV on in the background while I’m working on other projects. But I am loving Kill la Kill and Game of Thrones at the moment! It’s probably the few shows I will actually sit down and take the time to watch. Otherwise its just Pokemon, Adventure Time or Chowder on in the background.
SMC: Do you have any new cosplays currently in the works?
Jadeabella: I’m currently working on Satsuki Kyuurin from Kill la Kill and also my costume for Sparx which will be my character in Scavengers of the Scarlet Wastes. As well as helping making a bunch of props and costumes for the rest of the cast in the series.. It’s been pretty flat out lately haha.
