SMC: Why did you start cosplaying?
HammSammich: I always wanted to cosplay before I even knew what it was. Ever since I was a little kid I dreamed of dressing up as my favorite video game, anime, cartoon, etc. characters. When I discovered the world of cosplay when I was in high school, it was like an absolute dream come true! -What was the first convention where you cosplayed? J The very first convention I cosplayed at was OMGcon 2010 when I was fresh out of high school where I wore my very first cosplay ever. (Misty from Pokemon)
SMC: What has been your most memorable convention moment
HammSammich Most memorable convention moment…..hmmm are we talking good or bad? Hahaha! Just kidding! My most memorable convention moment would have to be when I got to meet and chit chat with Jason Marsden at this past year’s GMX in Nashville, Tennessee. That was really, really awesome!
SMC: What is the favorite thing about cosplaying at a convention?HammSammich The escape. Life can be so overly stressful and just plain exhausting. When I cosplay at a con it’s like I take on a whole new life. I become someone new and I can briefly live in a world where I’m free from all of my troubles and daily headaches.
SMC: Related to conventions, where can fans expect to see you next in? (any schedule in particular?)
HammSammich I know for certain that I’ll be at MTAC 2014 in Nashville, Tennessee this year! I plan on attending GMX later in October this year as well. Of course I have other cons in my sights, but those are the only two that I know of that are set in stone.
SMC: What other cosplayers inspire you?
HammSammich There are three in particular that I follow on deviantART who I find absolutely amazing and truly inspiring. ChaoticClaire (http://chaoticclaire.deviantart.com/), BiohazardBeauty (http://biohazardbeauty.deviantart.com/), and BlackPatchouly (http://blackpatchouly.deviantart.com/). These ladies are incredible. They never cease to blow my mind!
SMC: Which is your favorite Cosplay‘s you’ve created?
HammSammich I’d have to say my PSOne Resident Evil 2 Alternate Outfit Claire Redfield cosplay. It’s kinda obscure if you’re not a big time RE fan, but I had such a blast making it! I got some really good experience with stencil making when it came to this cosplay which I’m sure will come in handy again sometime in the future!
SMC: What cosplay are you best known for?
HammSammich Sailor Chibi Moon most definitely. Heck, I’ve become known as Chibiusa or Chibi to some of my friends because of that cosplay!
SMC: If money was no object what would be your dream costume to cosplay?HammSammich Oh goodness let me think…..so many out there that I’d love to do…..I’d say Sera Myu Sailor Neptune. The Sera Myu sailor fukus are ridiculously bedazzled and cost lots of money to make, but they’re SO BEAUTIFUL. Sailor Neptune has always been my favorite in the Sera Myu musicals so I’d most definitely say if money was no object, she’d be my dream cosplay to have.
SMC: What part of “geekdom” is you favorite avenue of entertainment (i.e. comics, movies, video games, anime, etc?)
HammSammich VIDEO GAMES!!!! 😀 Especially the Pokemon ones. I’m a Pokemon addict. I collect the cards, plushies, figures, books, clothes, heck I collect everything Pokemon! I play the games religiously and I even have a Poke Ball tattoo on my right hip. Whoops I got a little sidetracked there didn’t I? But yes, it’s video games. :p
SMC: What Comic Books are you currently addicted to?
HammSammich Most definitely The Walking Dead. No question about that.
SMC: Any favorite TV shows, movies or cartoons?
HammSammich My favorite TV show is The Walking Dead (haha would you look at that! :p). I haven’t missed an episode since it first aired on TV! That show is my life’s blood. Without it I would be a shell of my former self. My all time favorite movie is George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead. I can quote that movie line for line. Once I watched it back to back 8 times in a row. Yes I know, I have problems. Favorite cartoon? I don’t know if I have a favorite cartoon, but I do have a favorite anime! I’ve adored Sailor Moon since elementary school. That anime and its messages of love, friendship, and loyalty changed my life.
SMC: Do you have any new cosplays currently in the works?
HammSammich I might….In the words of Doctor Who’s River Song, “Spoilers.” 😉
