SMC: Why did you start cosplaying?
Glitzy Geek Girl: I was inspired by all the epic cosplays I saw at the Dallas Comic Con in 2012.
SMC: What was the first convention where you cosplayed?
Glitzy Geek Girl: My first comic convention was the Dallas Comic Con in 2012. I found items in my closet to make a quick Ramona Flowers to match my blue hair. Later that year at the Dallas Fan Days I made Princess Zelda‘s dress from Skyward Sword. I like to think that was the first serious cosplay I made and wore.
SMC: What has been your most memorable convention moment that you can remember?
Glitzy Geek Girl: It was spectacular to meet Yaya Han at AKon in 2013. I went up to her booth dressed at Fiona from Shrek to meet her. When she saw me she asked ME for a photo first! She’s such an inspiration, and I was really honored that she liked my cosplay.
SMC: What is the favorite thing about cosplaying at conventions?
Glitzy Geek Girl: My favorite thing is that it gives me a chance to meet new people. I can be very shy and have a hard time making friends. Cosplay has opened the door for me to join a community where I feel welcome.
SMC: Related to conventions, where can fans expect to see you next in? (Any schedule in particular?)
Glitzy Geek Girl: This month I will be a cosplay guest at Animation Celebration in Lewisville, Tx. I also plan to attend Dallas Comic Con and AKon this year.
SMC: What other cosplayers inspire you?
Glitzy Geek Girl: Kamui Cosplay has provided a lot of inspiration for making armor and props. I also follow Callie Cosplay because she embraces her characters in her photographs so well.
SMC: Which is your favorite Cosplay’s you’ve created?
Glitzy Geek Girl: I am a big fan of my Fiona from Shrek because I worked so hard on each piece and the body paint. I also love to wear Legolas and Arwen because in my fantasy world I am really an elf.
SMC: What cosplay are you best known for?
Glitzy Geek Girl: My Black Widow cosplay tutorial on my blog gets the most daily hits. I love to help others that want to create that costume. At local conventions people often remember me as the girl that was green! (I assume they mean Fiona from Shrek, hehe)
SMC: If money was no object what would be your dream costume to cosplay
Glitzy Geek Girl: My dream list has been growing lately, but I ultimately I would love to be Rapunzel. Her dress has several details to it that I would want to get just right. The same goes with her long hair which will be quite a project. I also want to make Princess Zelda from Twilight Princess someday.
SMC: What part of “geekdom” is you favorite avenue of entertainment (i.e. comics, movies, video games, anime, etc?)
Glitzy Geek Girl: When I am not cosplaying I am usually playing a video game. I love PC games like EverQuest 2, Guild Wars 2 and League of Legends. I also play my Nintendo 3DS a lot and take it with me everywhere.
SMC: What Comic Books are you currently addicted to?
Glitzy Geek Girl: I don’t read a lot of comics, but my friend got me the new Black Widow that I loved!
SMC: Any favorite TV shows, movies or cartoons?
Glitzy Geek Girl: My favorite TV show right now is The Vampire Diaries. I also enjoy Arrow, Face Off and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. My favorite movies are mostly fantasy like Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings and every Disney movie ever. My favorite cartoon is My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
SMC: Do you have any new cosplays currently in the works?
Glitzy Geek Girl: Yes! I just finished Jessie from Toy Story this week. Now I am about to start on Anna from Frozen, Thor from Marvel vs Capcom, Sailor Ariel and Princess Celestia.
Photographer Credits: Photographers for Fiona from Shrek is SeaDaemon Photography, Arwen is Eli Luna, Legolas is Alan Tijerina, and Black Widow and Princess Zelda are April Miller.
