SMC: Why did you start cosplaying?
Caroline Cosplay:
I was inspired to start cosplaying when I would see amazing pictures of other cosplayers and it just looked like so much fun and a great way for me to share my love for comics, games, etc. with other fans and show my appreciation to the creators.

SMC: What was the first convention where you cosplayed?
Caroline Cosplay:
The first convention I cosplayed at was at Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con in 2013.

SMC: What has been your most memorable convention moment so far?
Caroline Cosplay:
Oh wow, there have been too many fangirl moments for me to choose only one.  My list of most memorable so far are: meeting Stan Lee, meeting Jim Lee, having a little girl tell me I was her favorite action figure to play with (I was dressed as Psylocke), having dinner with Keu Cha and getting to pick his brain for a couple of hours, and most recently meeting Vampy Bit Me and her telling me that we should do a cosplay together.  Vampy is a big inspiration for me, so of course I couldn’t stop talking about our encounter for weeks (or peel the smile off of my face).

SMC: What is your favorite thing about cosplaying at a convention?
Caroline Cosplay:
My favorite thing about cosplaying at conventions is getting to be around other fans.  I’m normally a shy person, but somehow being in costume makes it easier for me to strike up a conversation with other fans and make new friends.

SMC: Related to conventions, where can fans expect to see you next? (Schedule?)
Caroline Cosplay:
My next convention is going to be Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con in June.  If they plan on having the Las Vegas Comic Expo again this year, I will be attending that too, which is usually in September.  If they don’t have the expo this year, I am going to try to make it to either the Long Beach Comic Con or Stan Lee’s Camikaze.

SMC: What cosplayers inspire you?
Caroline Cosplay:
I am inspired by every cosplayer that I meet, but the ones that I feel motivated by the most are Vampy Bit Me, Ivy Doomkitty, Yaya Han, Riddle, and LeeAnna Vamp.

SMC: Which is your favorite Cosplay you’ve created?
Caroline Cosplay:
My favorite cosplay I have created is my Psylocke costume designed by Kris Anka.  It is the first one I ever created along with my husband.

SMC: What cosplay are you best known for?
Caroline Cosplay:
Every costume I have worn so far is of Psylocke, so I guess I’m known best for Psylocke, LOL.  I have two different costumes of hers and am close to completing a third costume of hers.  She is definitely an obsession of mine.

SMC: If money was no object what would be your dream cosplay creation?
Caroline Cosplay:
My dream cosplay right now would be to make the Lady Mandarin costume that Psylocke wore for a short bit after her body transformation.  I could probably make a decent version of it with some really cheap material, but if money was no object, I would want to go all out and get the best material I could find to make it look as accurate as possible.

SMC: Do you have any new cosplays currently in the works?
Caroline Cosplay:
I am halfway done with Psylocke’s classic blue Jim Lee designed costume.  I have also been working on Lady Sif‘s battle costume from the Thor movies, but that is taking a while since I am making the chain mail top from scratch and I have also never made armor before, so that will be an interesting experience.

SMC: What is something your fans may not know about you? Other hobbies?
Caroline Cosplay:
I’m pretty much an open book, so I can’t really think of anything my fans might not know about me already.  I am a Marine Corps Veteran, a wife and a mother of two young daughters who have also expressed interest in cosplaying at conventions.  My husband is an artist, so we get to collaborate a lot on my cosplays.  He helps me with my costumes as well as does the graphics for my pictures.

SMC: What part of “geekdom” is you favorite avenue of entertainment (i.e. comics, movies, video games, anime, etc?).
Caroline Cosplay:
Comic books and movies are equally my favorite avenues of entertainment.  I’m a casual gamer and I have been testing the waters of anime lately as well.

SMC: What Comic Books are you currently addicted to?
Caroline Cosplay:
X-Men is my favorite right now.  I also like reading X-Force, Uncanny X-Men, and Deadpool (and the list goes on and on).  Most of my collection are Marvel comics, but I do throw in the occasional Aspen, DC, Top Cow, etc.

SMC: Any favorite TV shows, movies or cartoons?
Caroline Cosplay:
I watch way too much TV.  My current favorites are the Big Bang Theory, Arrow, Marvel’s Agents of Shield, Heroes of Cosplay, Face/Off, Ink Master, Tattoo Nightmares, America’s Worst Tattoos, The Vampire Diaries, and The Originals.  I also love watching reruns of Ugly Betty, Burn Notice, and Psych on Netflix.  I love all genres of movies, but of course the ones that get me most excited are the comic book adaptations.  Hayao Miyazaki films are becoming a favorite in our household too.  His movies are so beautiful.

SMC: What is your gaming system of choice?
Caroline Cosplay:
When I want to be in the zone, I prefer the PS3.  For my lazy days where I want to play something fun, but doesn’t involve too much concentration, I like playing the Wii.

SMC: What are you currently playing / upcoming video game releases?
Caroline Cosplay:
Since I’m just a casual gamer, I’m still working my way through the latest Tomb Raider game as well as Deadpool.  I get frustrated easily, so if I get upset with a game, I have to walk away for a while (sometimes months) or I might go all Hulk on my TV.

SMC: Any comments or words for the fans?
Caroline Cosplay:
I love making new friends, so don’t be afraid to come up to me and chat for a while.
