SMC’s series “Behind the Lens” where we interview some of your favorite cosplay photographers is back again for another run. Our first entry in “Season 2” is Canada’s Lexa One.
SMC: What interested you in photography?
Lexa One: I’m an artist first, I was always interested in drawing, painting, music, photography and more. I had my first camera in 2006 and since then I never stopped learning about everything around it.
SMC: What interested you in photographing cosplayers?
Lexa One: Since a young age I played video games and read lots of books and mangas, I was drawn to the fantasy worlds. With cosplayers I can unleash my creativity while shooting as well as in Photoshop to create something new.
SMC: Do you have a preference shooting between studios, outside or conventions?
Lexa One: I think both in studio and outside/on location have their forte. I like when the cosplayer can have some interaction with the background surrounding them, it’s more natural.
SMC: Any upcoming cosplay events you will be shooting (2016 Schedule)?
Lexa One: I will be at Katsucon, Montreal Comiccon and Otakuthon, maybe more. I do announce my presence at a convention on my Facebook page so the people looking to have a shoot with me will know!
SMC: What photographers inspire you?
Lexa One: I really like Michelle Monique, Vaxzone, Pugoffka, Darshelle Stevens, David Love, Von Wong and so many more but these are the first that come to my mind. Amazing people EVERYWHERE!
SMC: Any favorite cosplayers you have liked working with in the past?
Lexa One: No one specific, I always have a nice time with cosplayers, in convention or in private photo shoots, I like working with creative people !
SMC: Any cosplayers you hope to work with in the near future?
Lexa One: So many, I find new inspirational cosplayers almost every single day!
SMC: Do you have a geeky side? What’s your favorite way to pass the time? (Comic books, video games, movies, anime, etc…)
Lexa One: I play Tetris when I drink my coffee, I don’t have much time to play video games and to be super into it, I do miss it. I watch a lot of anime when I’m about to sleep, makes awesome dreams!
SMC: Any upcoming / ongoing cosplay related projects?
Lexa One: Yes, I do have some big projects for 2016 but I prefer to keep them secret until the times come.
