SMC: Why did you start cosplaying?
Raychul Moore: I started cosplaying in 2006…or maybe it was 2007. Not sure on the exact year, but I was getting ready to go to San Diego Comic Con for my first time and a friend wanted to put together a group cosplay. I had no idea what to expect, but I quickly fell in love with everything from costume creation to then actually wearing it to the con. Aaaaand I haven’t stopped! 😀
SMC: What has been your most memorable convention moment so far?
Raychul Moore: This is gonna sound like a cop-out, but every con has something that gives my heart the warm and fuzzies. Like when I was dressed as Kratos and got to meet the creators and artists behind God of War. Or then there was being Hulk Bunny in the Avenger Bunny group and having Marvel ask us to come up on their stage for photos and to be featured on their live show with Nathan Fillion. I also adore finding other cosplayers who are dressed as the same character I am and/or within the same universe. But I think above all, I love meeting fans!! Fans make my life and world a happier place. I love being able to take sometime to chat with them and get to know them as people and not just as a username on my computer screen.
SMC: Where can fans expect to see you next?
Raychul Moore: I only have a few more cons this year, so next I will be at SkillCon in Vegas at the end of December. After that, I will be at more cons this coming year than ever before and adding new cities I haven’t visited yet. So I am super excited!!!
SMC: What cosplayers inspire you?
Raychul Moore: All of them!!! Seriously, I love seeing other cosplayers’ methods of doing things, or how they work with different materials. I love also seeing everyone’s different interpretations of characters!! I pull so much inspiration from so many different people!
SMC: Which is your favorite cosplay you’ve created?
Raychul Moore: My personal favourite cosplay has usually been Kratos because he was such a challenge for me and I was super proud with how that costume come together. But I’m gonna go with my newest cosplay which is Dante from Devil May Cry. I have wanted to do a Dante cosplay for years, but was really conflicted on how I wanted to portray him and how I was going to make certain aspects of his costume, mostly his props. Just this past year have I learned more about casting and molding, so that allowed me to make Ebony and Ivory….which is a must for a Dante costume. 😀
SMC: What cosplay are you best known for?
Raychul Moore: I’d say the cosplay I most known for is Cammy from Street Fighter. Heh. Might have something to do with the fact that her costume has a thong back.
SMC: If money was no object what would be your dream cosplay creation?
Raychul Moore: I’d love to do a super legit Big Sister from Bioshock 2. That would be a dream come true cosplay for me.
SMC: Do you have any new cosplays currently in the works?
Raychul Moore: Oh yes! I am working on a Black Cat for SkillCon. Also working on Leeloo from the Fifth Element and my goal is to have a female Handsome Jack from Borderlands 2 done by SDCC 2015.
SMC: What do you do in the real world for a job?
Raychul Moore: I’m an on-camera host for video game conventions where I get hired to do con coverage and interview developers. I also host various game-related shows, like most recently I had a weekly live video game-centric debate-style show on Machinima called Player vs Player. I am also a YouTuber, so I produce weekly game content on two different channels of mine.
SMC: What is something your fans may not know about you? Other hobbies?
Raychul Moore: I don’t do much outside of game and/or cosplay related stuff. 😀 Except in October, I adooooore haunted houses, so I do a lot of haunted events around Halloween.
SMC: What part of “geekdom” is you favorite avenue of entertainment (i.e. comics, movies, video games, anime, etc?).
Raychul Moore: Video games, for sure. Games are my life.
SMC: What Comic Books are you currently addicted to?
Raychul Moore: Sadly, none. I haven’t had the time to get into any new comics recently. A few of my favorites are The Watchmen and Y the Last Man, so if you know of anything I might like, please share!
SMC: Any favorite TV shows, movies or cartoons?
Raychul Moore: Favorite show ever is Firefly. Some of my favourite movies are Star Wars (the original 3, of course), Indiana Jones and anything James Bond. I’m also absolutely in love with Perfume: the Story of a Murderer, City of Lost Children and Orgazmo.
SMC: What is your gaming system of choice?
Raychul Moore: I don’t judge based on system, I judge by the games on that system. That being said, I think a few of my favourite systems have been the N64, the Dreamcast and the PS2. A few of my favourite games are the Bioshock series, Borderlands 2, Eternal Darkness, all things Uncharted, Mass Effect, Fatal Frame, Silent Hill 2 and Dragon Age: Origins.
SMC: What are you currently playing / upcoming video game releases?
Raychul Moore: I am currently playing Alien: Isolation, Borderlands: the Pre-Sequel, the Evil Within and Destiny. But all of that will come to a sudden halt as soon as Dragon Age: Inquisition comes out!
