SMC: What interested you in photography?

FirstGlance: Since high school I had always been interested in photography and videography. I began by shooting video at events but that became boring very quickly. I shoot over 300 weddings, sweet sixteens, bar/bat mitzvahs and other industrial type events. I think it’s how I learned framing and composition of the scene I was shooting. Since I couldn’t afford film, when photography starting going digital, I bought a point and shoot and people were very complimentary of my shooting style, so I decided to upgrade and since then have been shooting models and cosplay ever since!

SMC: What interested you in photographing cosplayers?

FirstGlance: I have been going to cons for many years and seeing these amazingly talented models in costumes and decided it might be fun to shoot, what I didn’t realize is that most cosplayers are extremely humble and down to earth, and it’s become something I enjoy doing.

SMC: Do you have a preference shooting between studios, outside or conventions?

FirstGlance: I prefer to shoot outdoors in natural light, as I love the shadows and warm light that only the sun can provide. I will usually shoot a model in a con situation first, usually indoors and if we like each others work I’ll try and schedule a one on one shoot outside the con, or during down time, as cons are pretty hectic for cosplayers.

SMC: Any upcoming cosplay events you will be shooting (Schedule)?

Anime Expo
San Diego Comic Con
Stan Lee’s Comikaze

SMC: Any favorite cosplayers you have liked to working with in the past?

FirstGlance: I can say I was actually inspired by Linda Le, (@VampyBitMe) she was the first cosplayer I ever shot at a con and then met her one night after the con, in street clothes and she was so sweet and humble and such a geek it was quite refreshing.

SMC: Any cosplayers you hope to work with in the near future?

FirstGlance: I am working on a secret cosplay project that I’ve been working on for over 6 months now and I’m hoping to shoot with Adrianne Curry.

SMC: Do you have a geeky side? What’s your favorite way to pass the time? (Comic books, video games, movies, anime, etc…)

FirstGlance: SciFi, Comic books, Star Wars, been a collector since childhood

SMC: Any upcoming / ongoing cosplay related projects?

FirstGlance: As I stated before I am planning on releasing a secret cosplay project later this year, the plan is part of the project will launch at San Diego Comic Con and the rest at Stan Lee’s Comikaze. I’m very excited about this as it turns my hobby into a business and I believe will have a very positive response from cosplayers and there fans.
