Interview with Deadshot: Michael Rowe

Recently I was given the amazing opportunity to talk to one of my favorite reformed villains Floyd Lawton/Deadshot played by the very talented Michael Rowe. Learning how Michael gets into character was astonishing. As a cosplayer I am intrigued by costumes and as a huge fan of the CW’s Arrow I was thrilled to be able to talk to Deadshot himself.

NerdGirlBritt: What is it like putting on the Deadshot costume?
Deadshot: “Putting on a costume like that really helps you play the character. You can read a script and imagine all of these things, but putting on the clothes really changes you. It makes it effortless. I feel that I can cover up my right eye now and my voice will drop an octave. It becomes instinct and the costume is a big part of that.”

NerdGirlBritt: What are some of the challenges associated with the costume?
Deadshot: “When you cover your right eye you lose depth perception and it becomes difficult to even shake someones hand on set..then you have to fight somebody.”

NerdGirlBritt: How does the costume function?
Deadshot: “There is a battery pack that controls the intensity of the eye piece that is hidden behind my back. It has to be adjusted during shooting so I have to try and sneak my hand around and hide from the camera.”

NerdGirlBritt: What are some of you favorite aspects of the costume?
Deadshot: “I am glad that they designed it to be aerodynamic. So that when I do these fight scenes and have to find the right position it is effortless. It is not that heavy and it is very flexible to move in.”

NerdGirlBritt: How heavy would you say that the costume is?
Deadshot: “They use a really thick material on the jacket but it is not leather. The heaviest part is definitely the weapons and they are real. They have real bullets and even the wrist mounted gun is made of metal so it does have some heft to it.”

This interview was definitely one of the major highlights of my year. Michael was amazingly sweet and a great guy to talk to. Make sure you follow him on Twitter and Instagram @Captain_Rowe, he is very active and loves to interact with fans.
