SMC: Why Did you Start Cosplaying?

Betty Nukem: I don’t know if I ever really made the decision to “start” Cosplaying…it was more just the natural evolution from dicking around with materials for fun, halloween, going to cons and mashing my interests/skills.

SMC: What was the first convention where you cosplayed?

Betty Nukem: Officially I guess it would be the first Ottawa Comic Con

SMC: Where can your fans see you next (2013/2014 schedule)?

Betty Nukem: Ooooh lets see, I’ll be at Pop Expo this weekend (Dec 8-9, 2013) in Ottawa (Look for Harley Quinn from Arkham City and Either Lady Dead Pool or Femme Venom ;)! )
2014 Plans are to be at :
Ottawa Comiccon in May
San Diego Comiccon in July(?)
Toronto Fan Expo in August
Montreal Comiccon in September

I’m sure more dates and places will arise as the year goes on! I’m open to suggestions…

SMC: Funniest convention moment?

Betty Nukem: Probably at Ottawa Comicon 2013 when Manu Bennett (from Sparticus, white Orc in the Hobbit etc..) had his assistant come grab me for a private (free) photo op with him and asked for my number and later to join him for dinner…Sadly I had to decline, My man is lucky that I’m such a dedicated lady!

SMC: What is the best part of cosplaying at a convention?

Betty Nukem: Meeting people who are passionate about the same interests as I am. I’ve made so many amazing friends in the Cosplay Community who I continue to learn from everyday.

SMC: What other cosplayers inspire you?

Betty Nukem: I’m a big fan of Yaya Han, her skill and attention to detail is impeccable and shes kind of the mother of all cosplayers.
Of course I dig Jessica Nigri too, I think if we knew each other that we’d probably be friends. I can relate to her goofball nature and her skills are impressive..not to mention the tits 😉
I think my favorite Cosplayer right now is Nicole Marie Jean, she does a lot of characters that I love and that I haven’t seen other Cosplayers try. And they are usually spot on. She inspires me to do more retro characters, because she’s great at that.
Akufadum is a good friend of mine and he works with led lights and armors, I’m learning a lot from him and he inspires me to learn new techniques and test my own ideas.
I Gotta give a shout out to Alexia Jean Grey, Very Baby and UniverseOfAli! Love these ladies!

SMC: Out of all of the Cosplay’s you’ve created, which one has been your favorite?

Betty Nukem: My Harley Quinn Cosplay has been my favorite. I definitely relate to her comedic yet dark personality. And let’s be real here, she’s a bad ass.

SMC: Flip side to that, which one was the most difficult to work with?

Betty Nukem: Although I haven’t actually worn Lady Deadpool to a Con yet, I can tell it will be one of the more uncomfortable Cosplay’s Ive done. I made it out of Latex rubber sheeting which in itself is a B**** to work with, but it also its tight as hell and doesnt breathe…Plus the mask/cowl is so tight that its hard to blink lol. The things I do to pretend to be one of my favorite characters, yeeesh!

SMC: What Cosplay are you best known for?

Betty Nukem: Definitely my Harley Quinn from Arkham City Cosplay, she’s the most complete and my “fans” (if I can classify them as that…I consider them more to be my friends) seem to love that Cosplay the most too… Also I get the most requests to join projects with it. Speaking of which – coming up soon I’ll be involved in a photo comic book project based on the Babes of Gotham for John Seed. Keep an eye out for updates on that!

SMC: What part of “geekdom” is you favorite. i.e. comics, movies, video games, anime, etc?

Betty Nukem: Gotta admit, I’m definitely a huge gamer. Although I do dabble in comics and of course movies are a given.

SMC: What Video Game are you currently playing?

Betty Nukem: Deadpool, Batman Arkham Origins, Assassins Creed Black Flag, Dead Rising 2, Dead Space 2, GTA5, Sleeping dogs…and I cannot get past this one part in Bio Shock Infinite to save my life 😐 I get bored easily so I usually have a few games going that I flip between based on my mood.

SMC: What Video Game are you most looking forward to this year?

Betty Nukem: Well…If I could afford an XBOX 1…lol. MAD MAX, Theif, Dragon age inquisition looks good, Watch Dogs, Wolfensein the new order, Add ons or next story for Bio Shock, The Walking Dead continues by tell tale, and I’m sure this list will get longer and longer as the days go by…

SMC: What Comic Books are you currently addicted to?

Betty Nukem: None right now, but I’m getting into the Witchblade and the Darkness series’

SMC: If money was no object what would be dream costume

Betty Nukem: I’ve always wanted to do a kick as realistic looking Alien from the James Cameron Movies. But there are so many Cosplays I cant afford that I would love to do I could not list them all.

SMC: What upcoming cosplays are you working on? Have any top secret plans?

Betty Nukem: Demon Hunter: Diablo 3, Dani from Witchblade (full body armor), Bombshell Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy: Arkham Asylum, Armor from skyrim, Some character from He-man that I have not decided on, so so so much more….I’m always open for suggestions too!

Of course I have top secret plans… but if I told you…I’d have to kill you. The choice is yours.
